Loading “Croft Manor” takes 26 sec SMB / 20 sec disk. Loading first level takes about 10 seconds from SMB and 8 sec from disk. I just did some quick tests comparing SMB with original disks in good condition. Network IS slower than DVD but it is usuable. This was my reason to install Free Mcboot in the first place: Not wearing down the laser anymore and no disks lying around. Personally I prefer network/SMB on the slim PS2. Using DVD-backups patched with ESR patcher works considerably better. Many games do not work at all, or cutscenes don‘t play or the games crash. Buying the adapter, possibly an IDE-SATA bridge and a hard disk is pretty expensive for an old console – in my opinion. This weird setup actually worked – slow like number 2 but without any errors.įat PS2 with HDD is super – if you have the network adapter and a suitable IDE-drive. 4: (very cheap USB 2.0 multi card reader made by “Hama”)ģ2GB (Toshiba) mirco-SD card inserted via SD-adapter. Still slow in both directions, but not as bad. And sometimes the memory manager throws a strange error (no space left on device although it is almost empty).ĭrive no. MAX Memory Manager reads and writes from/to USB. Can’t read the necessary files (for the Free Mcboot installation) from USB-drive. Total FAIL! Can’t copy files from memory card to USB-drive. It makes me want to smash the console with a sledgehammer. Now I know again, why I hated this method of installing Free Mcboot. I took out my PS2 and tried some drives with AR-Max – this gave mixed results. Suggestion: Try some different drives, preferably old ones – and make sure you use FAT16 or FAT32 filesystem and MBR partition table. Action Replay Max Usb Util Ps2 Network InterfaceUSB drives work fine, most USB drives have read speed much higher than the real bottleneck which is the ps2 network interface.SSD is probably overkill since its speed will go largely to waste, but if you have one lying around, sure why not.Hard drive form of playing is what seems most intriguing to me and i have a fat ps2 but really want to use the slim instead, Click to expand. So… I have only one idea: Action Replay seems to be picky. I assume as such but need to ask And thanks for advice on bincue Is it just rootcd, where the disc isos Go Would it work with PSX as well if I were to start buying a few of those can I emulate memory card saves with OPL or is that something else, on the hard drive And can i use my Logitech wireless controller with PS1 and emulate game saves too, or do i have to hunt down a ps1 controller and ps1 memory card Also is a USB thumb drive at all feasible Or bad performance hitting too many reads and writes I doubt it but curious Or maybe could get one of those mini SSD usb drives Hmm, probably wont but just curious of options OH and lastly what do i do with these ul.cfg files for the 4gb splits Do i need those at all If so how would i handle unique ones in root folder.
